Political Note: Among the Committee’s more conservative members, Roldan opposed the School Department’s condom policy, according to insiders because of religious reasons. However, Roldan did support an amendment that would have restricted the policy to high school students, which while having a majority support failed on majority grounds. Plugged into the New North Citizens Council, Roldan is thought to be a contender against Ward 1 City Councilor Zaida Luna, although some observers view him as not the strongest challenger. However, that view is also contested by others who see Roldan as a force within the NNCC and therefore would be a potent challenge to the mercurial Luna. In the end, however, Roldan declined to run against Luna and instead sought to keep his Committee seat.
