BOSTON—With three weeks until Massachusetts begins counting ballots, the Democratic contenders for number two in the gubernatorial election again crossed swords. The subjects ranged from transportation to the meaning of the office they seek.
SPRINGFIELD—Six weeks from the primary, candidates for open local races assembled here for one of the first in-person face-offs of the 2022 primary season. The senate side of the evening happened as Longmeadow Senator Eric Lesser exits the Senate to run for lieutenant governor.
SPRINGFIELD—Amid a tight battle for his party’s nomination for lieutenant governor, Senator Eric Lesser received the endorsement of the region’s most senior elected official, US Representative Richard E. Neal, framed by Union Station.
Amid a wave of retirements with varying degrees of shock, the 413 will have several competitive legislative races this year. Campaign finance reports are telegraphing a spectrum of suspense in the local races the September 6 Democratic primary will decide.
Longmeadow Senator Eric Lesser has led the money race for much of the campaign to be the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor. But at the end of the month, he may supercharge that a bit fundraising featuring friends of his from the Obama Campaign Universe (OCU).
Whether a gentle laying on of hands or a less voluntary conversion, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker is now a believer.
At a press event at Union Station in Springfield and alongside US Representative Richard Neal, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker endorsed a plan to establish a rail authority to oversee the implementation of East-West rail service.
CHICOPEE—A crane hovered over a cul-de-sac punctuated subdivision. Aloft was a ginormous American flag framing the stage for Ward 1 City Councilor Joel McAuliffe’s kickoff for his bid to be the Democratic nominee for 8th Hampden district.
NORTHAMPTON—In the 2014 primary, the attention was on the gubernatorial race. Before the convention culled the herd to three candidates, there were five running. There was a race for lieutenant governor, too but the eventual winner was not terribly surprising.
This time around, there is a lot more attention the race for gubernatorial understudy.
LUDLOW—The difference from eight years ago is stark. When the State Senate district hugging Springfield’s east, north and south sides was last open, five Democrats sought the nomination. It looks likely that in 2022, only two will run: Jake Oliveira & Sydney Levin-Epstein.
